Council pounding the pavement - new footpaths around the shire
Published on 18 August 2021
At its meeting last night, Council awarded contracts valued at $270K to deliver the 2021/22 footpath expansion and renewal program.
Council is responding to community calls for better footpaths by working to improve footpath infrastructure around the Shire.
This financial year the program is funding projects in 10 different locations and 1.46 kilometres of footpaths through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program Stage 2.
Contracts have been awarded in four packages to four separate contractors to make delivery more efficient.
We expect contractors to commence work between September and October and works will take approximately 4 weeks per package.
Footpath expansion and renewal works will take place in the townships of Creswick, Clunes, Trentham and Daylesford.
These works have been identified through a combination of review of actions in the Walking and Cycling Strategy, asset condition analysis and customer requests.
Safe and effective pedestrian networks increase the liveability and community activation in townships.
Connected communities are less likely to rely on less sustainable forms of transport.
