Hepburn Shire Council last night awarded a contract for the redevelopment of the Trentham Sportsground Reserve Pavilion to Ballarat-based 4Front Construction.
Construction on the multi-million-dollar project will begin in November 2021.
“We are very pleased that this project will be underway soon. Council has been working with user groups and the community on the designs, and we look forward to seeing the completion of this long awaited and much anticipated project,” said Mayor, Cr Lesley Hewitt.
“The project will be a welcoming and inclusive community sports facility for Trentham, which includes universal access, family friendly design and gender neutral changerooms,” said Cr Hewitt.
Sport and Recreation Victoria has committed $2.062 million towards the project as part of the Community Sport Infrastructure Stimulus Program. Council has committed $413,000.
The pavilion will accommodate sports club use and broader community use for functions and events. It will include multi-purpose dividable community meeting space as well as a functional catering kitchen, canteen and bar, covered outdoor spectator area and more.
President of both Trentham and District Football Netball Club and Trentham and District Cricket Club Jason Shaw said the community is very excited about the pavilion.
“We are over the moon about getting a new pavilion. The project will transform the Trentham Sportsground into one of the most attractive venues in the region. It will enable us to go to the next level, grow and attract new players and members,” said Mr Shaw.
“The current rooms were built in varying stages and have become quite run down over the years. Having limited space for post-match and social functions is also a big challenge for clubs.
“We can’t wait to give our supporters and members a fantastic space to watch some footy or cricket and escape the Trentham weather. “To be able to do that at our ground will be wonderful for the town,” he said.
“The oval is in great condition, and even though we’re a small club, we’ve been really competitive over the last few years. Junior participation has been good and we’re growing in recent times with footy teams in under 11s, 14s, and 17s.”
The pavilion design complies with AFL Victoria and Cricket Victoria facility guidelines for a local club level facility.
The Trentham Sports Ground Reserve Pavilion Redevelopment Project is being developed by Hepburn Shire Council in partnership with the Victorian Government.
